Women’s Premier League: Mumbai Indians captain Harmanpreet Kaur heaped praise on Nat Sciver-Brunt after the English star played a match-winning knock of 72 against UP Warriorz in the Eliminator.
By India Today Sports Desk: Nat Sciver-Brunt stood up for Mumbai Indians and played a match-winning knock of 72 against UP Warriorz to take her team into the Women’s Premier League (WPL) final.
Mumbai Indians captain Harmanpreet Kaur heaped praise on Sciver-Brunt, saying the English star is “someone who can take us through any game”. Sciver-Brunt’s 38-ball unbeaten knock powered MI to 182/4. In reply, UPW folded for just 110 as Issy Wong returned with the figures of 4/15. Wong also became the first player to take a hat-trick in the WPL.
“We have a decent bowling attack, we were confident anybody could take wickets,” said Harmanpreet after the match.
“She (Sciver-Brunt) is someone who can take us through in any game, I am happy she did it. We have quite a few young girls who are keen to do well in fielding as well. They have a positive energy, they are ready to do their job and listen to us, whenever we talk to them.”
Harmanpreet further said that Wong is “always excited to bowl and is always very happy”.
Mumbai Indians will meet Delhi Capitals in the final of the WPL at Brabourne Stadium on March 26. Harmanpreet conceded that DC are a good team but stressed that she wants MI to just enjoy and do well in the summit clash.
“Delhi are a good side, we just want to enjoy the game and do well,” said MI captain.
Meanwhile, Sciver-Brunt said she enjoyed batting and lauded her compatriot Wong’s performance.
“The noise when Wongy took the hat-trick was incredible. If we could bottle that energy up and take it, it would be great. The wicket was very nice for batting. We needed a good score on the board to defend it. It was very enjoyable batting out there, surprised myself with a few shots actually,” said Sciver-Brunt.
