Serena Williams announces that she will retire from tennis after a brilliant career

She also confirms that she has a wonderful career that has seen her win 23 grand slam singles titles

The 40-year-old tennis star broke the news in an article for Vogue.

"I've never liked the word retirement," she said

She added, "I'm here to tell you that I'm moving on from tennis to other things that are important to me."

Williams said her decision was influenced by her desire to expand her family

She gave birth to her first child named Olympia in 2017.

“I never wanted to choose between tennis and family. I don't think this is fair,” Williams wrote

She said, "If I were a guy, I would be playing and winning and my wife will be doing physical labor of expanding our family."

Williams has suggested that the US Open, which starts later this month, will be her final tournament
