The Angels outfielder isn't worried about the long-term impact of the injury.

Mike Trout reported Wednesday that he has a rare back injury that could affect not only his play this year, but the future as well.

Angels coach Mike Frostad indicated Trout will need to stay on top beyond this season.

“In the long term, we have to look at it as something he has to deal with not just for the rest of the season.

But probably for the rest of his career, Frostad said.

"I think what he meant is that I have to stay on top of my daily routine so it doesn't come back," Trout said.

Trout added that he has no long-term concerns and that it would be premature to call for an early retirement.

"I think it's a little bit of an exaggeration," Trout said of everyone reaching out to him

"I appreciate all the prayer requests, but my career is not over."

Trout is currently on the 10-day injured list with rib inflammation.
