Five people were killed at Tulsa Medical Building in the 233rd mass shooting of 2022

Tulsa police have confirmed that four people were killed in a shooting Wednesday at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Okla.

“Four innocent people and one gunman were killed,” Jonathan Brooks of the Tulsa Police Department told a news conference Wednesday.

Police said the shooter had not yet been identified and died of self-inflicted gunshot wounds. The shooter had a rifle and a handgun, Brooks said.

Tulsa police said in a Facebook post before 6 p.m. That the shooter was dead.

“Officers are currently checking more and more threats through all the rooms in the building,” police said. “We know there are multiple injuries and multiple accidents.”

Tulsa police Capt. Richard Meulenberg said several people were injured; He called it the “catastrophic scene.”

The St. Francis Health System closed campus Wednesday afternoon due to the situation at the Natalie Medical Building. The Natalie Building houses an outpatient surgery center and a breast health center.

Aerial footage from a TV helicopter shows first responders wheeling someone on a stretcher from the hospital building.

Dozens of police cars were seen outside the hospital complex, and authorities stopped traffic as the investigation progressed.

At a nearby high school, families set up a reunion center to find their loved ones.

The spokesman said agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, tobacco, guns and explosives were also present at the scene.

The shooting is the 233rd mass shooting in the U.S. this year, according to data collected by the Gun Violence Archive. The archive depicts a group of people being shot or killed by four or more people, including a shooter.
