NTR’s daughter Uma Maheswari committed suicide and Andhra Pradesh was shocked by the incident

Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister NT Rama Rao’s daughter Kanthamaneni Uma Maheswari committed suicide in Hyderabad on Monday. 52-year-old Maheswari hanged herself at her Jubilee Hills residence. The Jubilee Hills police received information about the suicide around 2.35 pm. Maheswari’s daughter Deekshita was found her hanging in her bedroom.

Police registered a case under Section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code and shifted the body to Osmania Government Hospital for post-mortem. The initial information is that Maheswari died due to poor health. The reasons for the suicide are not known.

The youngest of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) founder’s 12 children, she has two daughters. Uma Maheswari’s death left the Nandamuri family in darkness. She was the youngest of four sisters. Former Union Minister and BJP leader Daggubati Purandeswari and TDP President and former Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s wife Nara Bhuvaneswari is also her famous sisters.

Uma Maheswari’s brother famous Tollywood actor and TDP legislator N. Balakrishna, Chandrababu Naidu, son Nara Lokesh and other family members rushed to Maheswari’s residence.

The deceased’s daughter and other family members living abroad have been informed, the family members said.

N.T. NTR popularly known as Rama Rao was one of the tallest leaders in Telugu. An actor-turned-politician, he formed the TDP in 1982 on the slogan of Telugu self-respect, bringing the party to power within nine months, setting a record of sorts by ending the one-party rule of the Congress in the then undivided Andhra Pradesh.

He died at the age of 72 in 1996, a few months after being ousted from power by a rebellion led by his son-in-law Chandrababu Naidu.

NTR had 12 children – eight sons and four daughters. Uma Maheswari was the youngest of four daughters. Recently, Uma Maheswari’s daughter’s wedding was attended by several family members.

NTR’s three sons, including actor and former minister N. Harikrishna, have already passed away.
