People chanted Netaji amar rahein as they thronged to Saifai, the hometown of Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav, for his final darshan. On Monday, the three-time UP chief minister died in a private hospital, and his mortal remains arrived in Saifai village in the evening.
The socialist leader’s body has been kept at his kothi, and he will be cremated in the afternoon. A massive pandal has been set up near the site where the veteran politician’s final rites will be held with full state honours.
On Monday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Jal Shakti Minister Swatantra Dev Singh, and BJP state president Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary paid their tributes. They also expressed condolences to Mulayam Singh Yadav son, Akhilesh Yadav. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, and Bihar Chief Minister Nitesh Kumar will pay their tributes today.
Mulayam Singh Yadav son, Akhilesh Yadav and Samajwadi Party president, former MP Dharmendra Yadav, and other family members are present in Saifai village.
Tight security is in place as a large number of people, including VVIPs, are expected to visit the village to pay their tributes to Mulayam Singh Yadav. According to PTI, a private security official manning the queues estimated that well over 10,000 people had paid their tributes by 9:30 p.m. yesterday.
Meanwhile, the state of Uttar Pradesh has begun its day of mourning. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath declared a three-day state mourning period in honour of the SP veteran.
Mulayam Singh Yadav, 82, died on Monday at 8:16 a.m. in a private hospital in Gurugram after a long illness.
