IPL 2023: 31-year-old fast bowler Sandeep Warrier was named as Jasprit Bumrah’s replacement at Mumbai Indians for the new season. The IPL organisers also confirmed Bengal wicketkeeper Abhishek Porel as Rishabh Pant’s replacement.
By India Today Sports Desk: Tamil Nadu fast bowler Sandeep Warrier was named as a replacement for Jasprit Bumrah as Mumbai Indians announced their new signing for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season. Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals, as reported earlier by India Today, roped in Bengal wicketkeeper Abhishek Porel as a replacement for their captain Rishabh Pant.
Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out of the IPL 2023 season after a recurrence of a back injury. The fast bowler has been out of action since September 2022. The star pacer missed the T20 World Cup and the all-important Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. The India pacer underwent surgery to treat his back injury and is likely to be out of action at least for the next couple of months.

Porel, who is a wicketkeeper-batter, has played 16 First-Class matches in addition to 3 List A and as many T20s for Bengal. Sandeep Warrier, who has played for India, has thus far played 68 T20s and scalped 62 wickets. He was previously a part of the Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore, having played 5 IPL games.
While Porel joins DC for INR 20 Lakh, MI have brought Sandeep Warrier on board for INR 50 Lakh.
