COVID Breaking News: According to a new study by the top Republican on the Senate health committee, the COVID-19 epidemic that has claimed numerous lives around the world “was most likely the result of a research-related incident” in China.
Sen. Richard M. Burr’s report, a Republican from North Carolina, sought to refute the notion that the virus originated in Wuhan’s wet market by arguing that the epidemic was not a result of a virus naturally spreading from animal to human.
However, despite the few new data supporting the conclusions, many experts disagreed with them, including those whose studies support the idea that the coronavirus originated in China’s Wuhan live animal market.
“The notion of a natural zoonotic origin no longer gets the benefit of the doubt, or the presumption of correctness,” the 35-page report by Republican committee staff states.
The paper points out flaws in the hypothesis that the virus traveled naturally from animals to humans, such as the counting failure to identify any animal at the Wuhan market that transmitted the infection to people even three years after the outbreak.
According to the report, “the existing information appears to be inconsistent with both historical precedence and the scientific knowledge of how naturally occurring zoonotic spillovers of respiratory viruses like SARS-CoV-2 arise.”
According to the report, the appearance of SARS-CoV-2 marks “a substantial departure from the pattern of past zoonotic spillovers involving respiratory viruses, such as MERS and SARS.”
The paper also mentioned that while the COVID virus is known to have originated exclusively in Wuhan, which is home to coronavirus research facilities, prior zoonotic disease outbreaks have happened in other areas as a virus spreads among animal populations.
Furthermore, it stated that prior to the pandemic outbreak in December 2019, no animals have been found to be infected with the virus.
China has disproved the hypothesis that a bio lab there was the source of the new coronavirus. The widely reported theory that the deadly virus originated from a wet market in Wuhan that sold live animals has also been debunked by certain Chinese researchers.
