Bill Gates is the founder of Microsoft, so most people expect him to use products from his own brand. But over the years, Gates has moved from the obvious to keeping a close eye on what the competition is doing. Recently, it was discovered that a non-Microsoft foldable device is being used. In fact, Gates was sincere enough to talk about the specific brand and model he was using.
The Microsoft founder revealed at a Reddit AMA this week that he will be using the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 (Bill Gates foldable phone) as his primary smartphone for everyday use. We are not surprised to hear this from Gatehouse, especially when he talks about using Android phones for years.
But the way he went specifically with the name of the device indicates that its use case he finds attractive and practical for his needs.
At AMA, Gates mentioned the size of the folder display, which he could use as a “portable PC” and nothing else. Reports suggest that the partnership with Samsung and Microsoft could play a major role in his device selection.
Most Samsung devices today are preloaded by Microsoft apps like Office, Office 365 and more. Therefore, using the Galaxy Z Fold 3 may allow him to connect with the Microsoft Ecosystem, and use a futuristic tool as his everyday driver.
Microsoft has its own foldable version of the Surface Duo, which received version 2.0 last year. The device runs on highly customized Android to look like Microsoft Windows. The first product was considered too expensive, while the second generation Duo was able to redeem the best hardware onboard offering 5G connectivity, and the price went up even more.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 comes in a similar price range, and offers the user a sleek product that may appeal to Gates and other buyers who use this foldable device.
The Galaxy Z Fold 4 is expected in the coming months, and Gates may have turned to it as well.
